Description:
The Exciting Up and Down Game for Little People! This delightful game is simple and easy to play, even for children who can't read. Players spin the spinner and move their pawns, square by square, the number shown. If the pawn lands on a picture square at the bottom of a ladder, children climb up with a good deed! Naughty deeds slide you back when you land on a picture square at the top of a chute!
*****WARNING: CHOKING HAZARD-Small parts. Not for children under 3 years.*****

Our Review:
Chutes and Ladders will really appeal to the four to six year olds out there. Unfortunately, the fact that it involves zero decision-making opportunities won't push your child's development much. But still, the lessons learned about the vicissitudes of life are clear--it isn't fair! Neither is it fair when your six year old beats you after you slide down a chute near the end of the game!

It
BUT my main beef is that by the time your child is old enough to count the squares they have almost outgrown the game..it is NOT a game an adult wants to play over and over..but it's Chutes and Ladders..not having this game is like not having Monopoly. If you want great preschool games that are SHORT look at games from Gamewright games. Unlike Candyland and Chutes many of their games also have a tiny bit of strategy in them.

Hard for my 4-year-old to play
I have happy memories of playing Chutes and Ladders, but I think those memories must be revisionist. My two central complaints are:
1. The game is just too long. If a kid's attention span is one minute for each year of his or her life, Chutes and Ladders takes a veritable eternity to complete. It just doesn't keep my 4-year-old's attention until the end unless one of us hits the humongo ladder at the beginning.
2. The game board zig zags up, making it very confusing for little guys to know which direction to move on a given row. My son is *always* going the wrong direction.
