Description:
The Hilarious Tug of Words!
On each turn, one team flips over a category card. Team members frantically brainstorm words that fit the category while the opposition tries to sidetrack them. The team must agree on a word and pull each letter of that word one lane closer to their side of the street, all before the time runs out. Word on the Street™ will have you in the fast lane to fun!

Our Review:
Word on the Street is a fun, fast-paced word game that will have you both laughing and pulling your hair out as you compete to think up the best words. There are two competing teams, trying to be the first to "win" eight letter tiles out of the available 17 letters (all the vowels and the most rare consonants have been omitted).
In Word on the Street, each letter tile starts out in a line (the "street") along the center of the game board. Teams take turns drawing a card with a subject, and trying to think of a single word that matches the subject and has as many of the particular letters they are targeting as possible. The tile for each letter in the word is moved one space towards the side of the board for that team, for each time the letter appears in the word. For example, if the card is "A type of cheese," then "Cheddar" would move C, H, and R each one space, and D two spaces. "Mozzarella" might be a better choice if you were targeting different letters. But you have to be able to spell it!
Once a tile moves off the board, that team has won the tile. The game board is five spaces wide, so if a tile starts in the middle, it must be moved 3 spaces to be won. If the tile has moved into the other team's side, it must be moved more spaces to both keep the other team from capturing it, and to win it for your team. True to Out of the Box game publishing's mission, the rules are simple and very quick to learn, and game play is fun.
Two to eight players, ages 12 and up can play Word on the Street. Game play is quick and you will almost certainly find yourself wanting to play more than one game in a sitting. The artwork isn't much to speak of and the theme is a little contrived, but that doesn't matter since the real meat of the game is all about mental quickness and creativity. Players with better vocabulary and spelling skills definitely have an advantage in this game, so age and reading level will probably make a difference. You will want to try to balance out the teams accordingly.
People who like classic word games like Scrabble will probably love Word on the Street. It involves the same mental energy as other classic word games, but with an accelerated pace and a lot of interaction between players. We give Word on the Street a solid recommendation as a great game for family and friends.

My cousin sent this game home for our kids at Christmas. My kids are aged 6 and 10, other kids in our family are aged 12 and 13. They love it! And the person or team who wins? Not who you think!

The thing I liked best is that the timer is 30 seconds long - which is one teams turn. So, in about 45 seconds, it's the other teams turn. Be careful what word you pick since the other team can debate whether or not it truly fits that category.

Loved it. Played it with friends on New Year's Eve - great fun. Caused a lot of rowdiness between the teams, but that was a good thing.
