Description:
Mallorca. Island of the wind.A place of golden beaches and a light-blue sea. The almond harvest is at hand. In addition, juicy oranges, lemons, and figs are ready to be picked and taken to the market. Olive trees bewitch the country with their curled branches and sumptuous vineyards invite passers-by to walk among their warm earth. In the midst of this landscape, your centuries-old natural stone farmhouse provides a home and supports your large windmill: your FINCA. Listen to the wind, which propels your windmill! Then take in the course of the yearly harvest the sweetest and most valuable fruits from the land. Load them on your old donkey cart and travel around the island, selling them everywhere. If you manage this quickly, you will be soon be the richest farmer on the island.

Our Review:
At BoardGameRatings.com we play a lot of games. Every once in a while, a game comes along that seems to stand out, like a breath of fresh air. It could be for any number of reasons: original game play, beautiful artwork, elegance in simplicity, fun theme, or others. Finca is a game that has all of these, and it does stand out.
In Finca, you play the part of a fruit farmer who must collect the right types of fruits and then sell them to the various regions of a tropical island, where particular fruits are in demand. If you succeed in meeting the demands of the people better than any other player, you win.
There is a windmill in the upper-left corner of the Finca game board, with each blade representing a particular type of fruit. Your farmer game pieces are placed on the various blades and spend their time during the game moving around this windmill in a way that is uniquely interesting: when you want to move a farmer, you count the number of farmers on the blade that farmer starts on, and advance him that number of blades. Then you collect the type of fruit shown on the blade your farmer ends up on, taking as many as there are farmers on that blade. In addition, when you cross two spots on the windmill, you collect a "donkey cart" that allows you to make a selling trip to the regions of the island. These simple rules create a very interesting interactive dynamic to the game and involve more strategy than first meets the eye.
Each region of the island has a stack of tiles, each with various types of fruits showing. When you have collected enough of the right types of fruit, as well as a cart, you turn them in and collect the tile, worth points at the game end. There are also bonus tiles to be taken when you collect certain numbers of fruit tiles.
When a stack of tiles is exhausted, you place a Finca (a little building) on the region and one of the players (with the right fruits showing in the tiles he has collected) takes the Finca tile from the region, which is worth additional points at the end of the game. The game ends when after the last Finca is placed on the board.
Each player in Finca also has four "action" tiles, giving him special abilities. These must be carefully managed and used at optimal times to give the player a needed boost.
The rules of Finca are simple enough to learn in about 15 minutes, and game play lasts between 30 and 45 minutes, depending on how many players are playing. Finca is advertised for ages 10 and up, making it an ideal family game. Finca is particularly fun with two players.
The game components are of high quality and there are a lot of little, colorful pieces to play with. Finca involves plenty of strategy and the luck is evenly distributed, meaning that every player has the same opportunities at the same time. Finca is simply a lot of fun to play. We give Finca our highest recommendation.

My wife and I both love this game. It is very simple to learn to play, with easy to understand rules. It is a very good two player game, with a good amount of strategy and little luck involved.
