Description:
Each player is the owner of a water zoo. Each player tries to lure as many visitors as possible into his water zoo and earns points for the visitors that visit his zoo. To create a zoo that people want to visit, a player must collect animals. When a player’s water zoo is successful, he may want to expand it. When a player’s animal basins are full, he must place additional animals into his depot, which loses him points at game end. When a player makes skillful use of his coworkers, he can gain additional points. The player with most points wins.

Our Review:
If you liked Zooloretto (and we certainly did), you may find you like Aquaretto even more.
Aquaretto is a stand-alone game, and does not require knowledge of Zooloretto to play. Though the theme is similar--building a theme park or zoo full of cute animals--the game mechanics are a little more complex, making this more interesting and providing more opportunities for strategic planning.
For one thing, Aquaretto has a tile placement mechanic, where the physical location of your animals has significance. Different types of animals have different point-scoring potential, unlike Zooloretto, where every animal is basically equivalent. Earning money and workers as your animal collections grow, rather than only when they are complete, is another good innovation that gives more frequent payouts and thus gives players more options during the game. And the fact that only the top-most animal in the depot (Aquaretto's version of Zooloretto's barn) may be bought or moved makes strategy go into the order of tile placement there, when you have a choice.
Aquaretto also features animal trainers, feeders, cashiers, and helpers for the depot, which significantly alter the scoring at the end of the game. The strategy is a little more robust in Aquaretto, bumping up the minimum player age a bit to 10+, but in our opinion, adding more depth and interest to the game--in fact, turning it into a totally separate game, worth standing on its own and adding to your collection even if you already have Zooloretto. Aquaretto is a fun, colorful, interactive game with a delightful theme that adults and children alike will love. And since it supports 2-5 players, this is a classic family game. Very highly recommended.
