Description:
Four diseases have broken out in the world and it is up to a team of specialists in various fields to find cures for these diseases before mankind is wiped out.
Players must work together, playing to their characters' strengths and planning their strategy of eradication before the diseases overwhelm the world with ever-increasing outbreaks. For example, the Operation Specialist can build research stations, which are needed to find cures for the diseases. The Scientist needs only 4 cards of a particular disease to cure it instead of the normal 5.
But the diseases are outbreaking fast and time is running out: the team must try to stem the tide of infection in diseased areas while also towards cures.
A truly cooperative game where you all win or you all lose.
Contents: board, 96 wooden cubes (for diseases), 5 pawns, 6 wooden research stations,
6 markers: 1 outbreak marker, 1 infection rate marker, and 4 cure markers, 115 Cards: 48 infection cards, 59 player cards, 4 role cards, and 4 quick reference cards

Our Review:
Pandemic is a cooperative strategy game in which 2-4 players try to curb worldwide outbreaks of four different diseases. Each player has a special ability. By taking advantage of players' different locations in the world and these abilities, they hope to eradicate the diseases and save mankind from a pandemic that would otherwise kill us all.
While certainly not the first cooperative game, Pandemic is one of the best that has come along in a long time. Pandemic is fun, intense at times, and can be adjusted in difficulty to suit the experience of the players.
Being a cooperative game is its own reward, as players are much less likely to be in a foul mood at each other when the game is over, whether they win or lose (though they may be in a foul mood if they have all been killed by disease). But as with most co-op games, one of Pandemic's only drawbacks is the natural tendency of more experienced players to dominate the discussion and strategic planning. Oh well, at least they are helping, rather than crushing, the inexperienced players.
Pandemic is fun, interesting, versatile (2-4 players officially, though play with 1 player would also work), relatively easy to learn, plays out in a relatively short time (45 minutes or so), and involves little colorful cubes, a map, and diseases threatening to wipe out mankind. What's not to love? We give Pandemic a high recommendation.

| Great for two
Very enjoyable two person game. Playing against the board is effective at minimizing 'unhappy losers'. Hard to beat, but during every game you feel that you have a chance of winning...then you lose :( wonder what you could have done differently, so you end up wanting to play again. Great game!

| Great change of pace, should be in your collection as a new challenge
One of the most addictive games I've played, Pandemic is a fantastic change of pace from cut-throat competitive games. It's hard for some to step out of the competitive paradigm, although for anyone who really can't shake it, there's always the bio-terrorist from the expansion.
The tension is thick as you wait for the inevitable epidemics. They tend to show up when you're least prepared. There's enough reliance on luck to throw a wrench into even the most carefully-laid plans.
Game play can be slow at times, because strategy is so important. Fortunately, you're playing even when it's not your turn, as long as your group is open with discussions. I haven't been brave enough to try the expansion mutation cards, but I have been beaten by the bio-terrorist. With the expansion, the difficulty can be increased for truly elite players.
The quality of the game materials is middle of the road. Good artwork on serviceable cardstock. You won't wear out the cards, but sleeves would be a good idea. The wood blocks are a little large for the playing space, but otherwise suitable--and since they're wooden, they'll last virtually forever.
Overall, one of my favourite games

| Beware of your gaming preferences
The concept of this game is great! The game mechanics are really smart, and there is a fun level of suspense after the first part of each person\'s turn. The problem is adjusting to a game that is cooperative in nature when you have only played board games driven by competition. This is a game that requires each person to contribute their thoughts and strategies, but when that doesn\'t happen the spirit of this game is ruined. For people like me, who have played many board games and are competitive by nature, this game is fun, but I would recommend a different game.

| Great for any number of players
This game is simply addicting. The cooperative nature makes it an excellent game for a couple, and it is just as much fun for 4. The difficulty adjustments make it possible to play with any crowd and the game has a great sense of timing-you're often just a turn away from losing when you finally win, or vice versa! Can't get much better than this one.
