Our Review:
Cineplexity is a fast-moving party game for 4-10 players, where players take two cards that contain clues (names of actors, movie themes, props, settings, etc), and try to be first to come up with a single movie that contains the clues from both cards. Since one player acts as the “director” (or judge) each turn, all the players stay engaged in the fun throughout the game. This high level of interaction plus the fun subject material and resulting conversation make Cineplexity an ideal party game.
It is probably possible for a super-movie-buff to dominate this game, but the likely scenario is that most players will be able to compete rather well. Even if players don’t win the overall game, they will have fun experiencing victories each time they are first to think of a movie. Our first experience with Cineplexity was with several players who don’t actually see that many movies; thus, we were skeptical that this movie-themed game would be much fun with that group. We were pleasantly surprised—-the cards contain clues that apply to a wide enough variety of films that most Americans who don’t live in a cave will usually be able to think of movies that apply. Thus, the challenge comes in thinking up the movie title before the other players. In addition, there are often choices, such as on the cards with names of actors, so that if you haven’t heard of one particular actor, you can still use another (for example, “Tom Cruise, Chevy Chase, or Harrison Ford”). The balance of the game is great, with the clues occasionally being challenging but overall play continuing at a party pace.
As an experiment, we tried playing Cineplexity with two players, and unlike nearly all other party games, it actually works quite well. The roll of director must be shared so that both players are always competing, but the basic game mechanic is almost as much fun with two as it is with a roomful. This unexpected feature, along with the quick play and general appeal that great party games must have, allow us to give a hearty recommendation for Cineplexity as a great party or family (or even a 2-player!) game.

We had a great time with this game. All age levels were able to play together. No one dominated the game and we had no one who was unable to win points. First game was a little slow, but subsequent games became more fun as we caught on. We will be playing this one for a long time.
