Shadows Over Camelot rating: 5/5 stars Finally off the couch

My brother picked this game up for my birthday and it got the whole family off the couch. Even my wife who normally won't go near anything with a sword or knight had a wonderful time. The craftsmanship is top notch as well. I would recommend this game to any group who wants to get away from the T.V. more often.

Shadows Over Camelot rating: 5/5 stars Everyone Loves It

I've had this game for only a few months, but everyone who plays the game for the first time immediately asks to play it again just after we finish. It doesn't matter how much they hate board games or don't have time. Every time someone new plays, we play 2 games in a row at their own request.

Shadows Over Camelot rating: 5/5 stars Great for new players

Shadows over Camelot is great. While looking at the picture, it might seem overwhelming (haha), it's quite a simple game. The first thing you notice when you open the box are lots of board pieces. They are sturdy and the art on them is fantastic. You also have lots of plastic figures: 4 saxons, 4 picts, 12 siege engines, 7 knights and 3 quest items. Finally, you have 3 decks of cards, good, bad and loyalty. Then at last is the coat of arms card which shows your knight with his unique power. So yea, for the stuff you get with the game, it's amazing. The art is detailed, clean and colorful. The plastic figures are gray, but are detailed, not some wooden block. Finally, the box itself makes cleanup a BREEZE. Ok so how do you play? The first thing to do is choose a random knight. He has a unique power from other knights. The second thing that is done is to pass out loyalty cards. There are 8 cards and one of them is a traitor. Then it's time to start the game. On your turn, you do 2 things: a bad action, then a good one. The bad is either drawing an evil card, placing a cannon, or taking 1 damage. Evil cards usually screw up, but can do other stuff. Cannons are placed near the castle, 12 cannons loses the game. You start the game with 4 life and the moment you hit 0 you die and YOU lose, while everyone else continues. A good action can either be, moving to a new location, doing a quest action, discarding 3 cards to heal, playing a special white card, or accusing a player of being a traitor (can only be done once and only after 6 catapults or swords are placed). You can also take 1 damage to take a second, DIFFERENT heroic action, which means you can't do the same action twice in the same turn. So the quests... 4 quests once won/lost, are removed from the game. 3 of these quests give you items that give you different advantages. 3 other quests restart once won/lost. You can draw 2 cards at the castle as a quest action, but only if you are in the castle. You can also fight catapults while at the castle for your quest action. As you win or lose quests, you gain white/black swords. 12 swords with the majority as white wins the game, while 7 of more black swords lose the game. You'll also lose if there is 12 catapults or if all the knights die. There's a traitor in the game that tries to screw things up secretly and once revealed deals more havoc and turns 2 white swords into black. So yea, that's a basic summary of the game. If you have no idea what I'm saying here. The game can be played up to 7 players. Everyone works together, but one person secrets screws everything up. Let's say you have 5 houses. Well, as the game goes on, house 1 might be on fire, but as you are putting that fire out, house 3 will go on fire. The game is simple to play, the art is great, the components are sturdy, turns are short and setting things back/up is easy and fast.

Shadows Over Camelot rating: 5/5 stars Great game mechanics

We bought this game as a gift for a game-loving friend and it was very well received. While all our knights died bloody the first time out, the complexity of the game (having to fight on different fronts, evil getting to act first -- doesn't it always?) hooked us all immediately.

A little daunting to figure out how to play at first, but the gameboard and character cards are designed to make everything as intuitive as possible. The quality is top-notch, especially the playing cards! Definitely worth the investment of both money and time.

Shadows Over Camelot rating: 5/5 stars A Great Game

My friends and I have so much fun playing this game. When I originally heard the title I was skeptical because I'm not a big fan of fantasy themed games. But the strategy and teamwork involved make it a classic!

Shadows Over Camelot rating: 4.5/5 stars A cooperative quest

I received this game for my birthday in December 05 and immediately played it twice. My wife and friends were immediately hooked. Each game is different and with the addition of the traitor knight, it kept the game as mysterious as ever. I recommend this for anyone of all ages. Excellent game.

Shadows Over Camelot rating: 5/5 stars Very excellent

My fiancee and I played this game with two knights apiece and had a blast.

Beware, it's super-hard and you're guaranteed to get destroyed your first game. However, once you learn to pick your battles and get familiar with actually paying attention to special abilities and such, it becomes a pretty interesting race against the game to pick up a win.

Absolutely worth a try for anyone. Even if you don't have the requisite 3-7 players, a 2x2 game with 2 players more than fits the bill, so have fun, and good luck.
