Our Review:
Cloud 9, released by Out of the Box Publishing, is a simple game based on the premise of knowing when or when not to take a calculated risk. Players compete in a balloon contest to see who can manage to stay in the balloon as it rises, or who is smart enough to realize the balloon will fall and jump out beforehand. The player who successfully dares to take her balloon to the highest heights without jumping out reaps an accordingly high number of points for the bold endeavor--the first player to accumulate fifty points is the winner. Each player starts with a few balloon cards, which come in one of four colors. All players begin each round in the balloon basket, which is tethered at the first cloud worth one point. The starting player rolls two balloon dice to see what the requirements are to lift the balloon to the next cloud--each die has two blank sides, and one side for each color of balloon featured on the balloon cards. If, for example, the player rolled a green balloon and a blank, the price required to successfully navigate the balloon to the next cloud is one green balloon card. Before the player reveals whether or not she has the needed card(s) to keep the balloon from falling, each player must decide, in clockwise order, whether to stay in the balloon or jump out. If the player jumps out, she is awarded the number of points associated with the cloud and is out of play for the remainder of the round. The players that remain in the balloon risk the points on the hope that the player will have the cards needed to take the balloon to the next highest cloud. If they’re wrong, and the balloon falls, they don’t receive any points. As the balloon rises to the next highest cloud, the point totals increase, as do the number of dice that are rolled.
Cloud 9 is a light-hearted game that is fun for three to five players. It’s a good filler, especially because it takes about five minutes to learn and usually wraps up in less than thirty minutes. Cloud 9 can drag on if you’re playing with a group of risk-averse individuals—it only gets exciting if you’re willing to take a chance once in a while. In typical Out of the Box fashion, the instructions are clear and simple, and the components are adequate. I give Cloud 9 my recommendation as a nice, light filler.

| O.K.
I thought the game was ok but not too exciting. There should be more energy and the game will give your soul a better vibe. Other than that I think it was kinda fun. But there should be more excitement for the energy to energize your soul.

| Very confusing
I find that Cloud nine's instructions is very complicated and confusing. The game itself is very boring. Me, I hate this game. I mean, there should be more excitement instead of boringness. One things for sure, I'm never playing it ever agian and I'm telling all my friends how bad it is.

I had a good time playing this game. Cloud 9 is basically about taking risks. You and the other players are in a hot air balloon. On each player's turn, the player rolls the number of dice indicated by the board (the further you are in the game, the more dice are rolled). The dice have colors on them. After the player rolls the dice, the other players decide whether they want to stay in the balloon. They make this decision based on whether they think the player whose turn it is has in his/her hand one card of each of the colors rolled. If that player does have all the colors, the balloon will move up one cloud level on the board. If he/she does not have all the colors, the balloon goes back to cloud one with all the players that were in the balloon. Whoever got out of the baloon gets to collect the number of points corresponding to the cloud on which he/she hopped off.
So, in summary, the game is about taking risks--a betting game, of sorts. Cloud 9 is very easy to play, and young kids as well as adults can play it competitively. The game can be somewhat uninteresting when you have a group of people that are unwilling to take risks. If that happens, the balloon never gets even close to cloud nine, which means that there is never much to risk, which makes for a dull game. That being said, the game is a nice filler (between activities at a children's parties or between heavier strategy games) and probably worth trying.
