Our Review:
Located in Granada, Spain, Alhambra was once a formidable fortress, glorious palace, and beautiful city all in one. The game of Alhambra, winner of the prestigious Spiel des Jahres award (German game of the year) in 2003, gives each player an opportunity to recreate the beauty of ancient Spain by building his or her own Alhambra, complete with gardens, towers, pavilions, and more. Players must make difficult choices in how to spend limited economic resources on different construction projects, and where to place them, in order to build the most glorious palace.
Similar to its predecessor, Stimmt So, Alhambra's most interesting aspect is its planning and resource management component. The challenge comes in determining when and what type of building tiles to purchase and what types and amounts of currency to keep in hand for future acquisitions. Another great feature of the game is the placement of building tiles in the Alhambra--if the tiles aren't placed well, it can severely limit opportunities for future growth. Although luck weighs heavily in Alhambra, it does not outweigh good strategic decision-making. The game plays best with 2, 3, or 4 players, although the 2-player setup requires the occasional use of an "imaginary" player. The only downside to the game is that it seems to lag on other players' turns, as they contemplate the outcomes of the potential choices before them. That said, Alhambra is a very good game, and I give it a strong recommendation.

Tiles were lopsided
The distribution of tiles made it difficult to play. Surely this is not what the game is supposed to have in the box. Here is what we have:
7 top left corners
7 bottom left corners
4 left only walls
2 3-sided left/top/ and bottom
1 top right corner
1 right wall tile
1 3-sided left top right
0 bottom right corners
6 top only
2 top-bottom
13 center/no wall tiles
10 bottom only
Must we purchase extensions in order to have some balance to the tiles. Others have told me that they have not had any imbalance like this. My email to this merchant, requesting information on or correction of this situation, have gone unanswered.

fun game
this game is fun, but I don't recommend playing with only two, due to the odd "third" ghost player named Dirk that has to be used. I enjoyed playing this but I do not think it ranks among the best games out there (Catan, Carcassonne, Citadels, Puerto Rico, San Juan). There is quite a bit of luck involved and you don't necessarily have to create any strategy to win.

family get-together
The BEST family get together game that we own! I like it most because there is not as much dependence on the other players helping one another (you know, helping one of the other players win). At the end of the game, everyone is still talking and usually cannot wait until we play again.

Great Game
This simply put is one of the best games out there. The rules are straightforward and simple and about on par with Settlers. In addition the game play is top notch although the game begins to slow down as character weigh their option and choices, usually sometime before the 2nd score card is revealed. The best part of this game is the strategy involved even if its just for 2 players. I have been looking for a good game to play with my fiancee and although Settlers is fun, the game depth was somewhat lacking. The game has the same amount of strategy as Acquire in my opinion but with a more exciting playing environment. Enjoy

Fun game
We have had a lot of fun playing this game! It is easy to learn and has a nice mix of strategy and luck. It does not take as much thinking as settlers. Some of the people we have played with take too long on their turn. It should move along fairly quickly and takes about 45-60 minutes to play. Enjoy!

a thoroughly great game
Alhambra is a WONDERFUL game. It combines elements of chance and strategy, requiring careful planning and forethought. I own the German version, which has several expansions, each adding different dimensions of strategy and guile. Unfortunately, I do not believe these are availible in the English version. No reading is required to play the game, so it is suitable for all ages.

EXCELLENT!!!
I LOVE this game. I was introduced over the Christmas holiday, and was a fast addict. Much faster than Settlers or the more complicated strategy games, but equally satisfying. Easy to learn, easy to plan, difficult to master. BUY THIS GAME AND YOU WILL PLAY IT OFTEN.
